Marilynne Robinson, yes from Gilead again, has a great discourse on epistemology and the limits of our knowing. This is outside of faith and a discussion of reason from the path Descartes helped place us on. You should read this quote in context but that’s not possible here. It’s from pages 178-79 in the paperback.
